Kartra Vs. Podia: Which One Should You Choose?
Today, we’re going to take a look at two famous platforms with roughly similar features and focus: Podia and Kartra. We’ll take a look at their most important features to learn what makes each one unique.
Our goal isn’t exactly to declare an objective winner. Instead, we’re giving you the information you need to decide which one is the best for your particular needs. That’s because there’s no “one size fits all” solution when it comes to online tools for entrepreneurs.
We’re going to analyze their goals and focus, most relevant features, and their pricing options. In the end, I’ll summarize which one can benefit you the most depending on your own objectives.
With that out of the way, let’s go into an overview of both in case you’re not familiar with them.
Kartra is mostly known as a marketing funnel builder as well as an automation and CRM platform. It’s mainly targeted towards digital products, which includes course creators, and marketers; some people have also used it with physical products successfully.
It goes a bit beyond that, though. It’s a comprehensive suite with different marketing tools and hosting features to help you both build and grow your business. Its main goal is to save time (and money) entrepreneurs would otherwise have to invest in searching and installing different apps.
It streamlines many processes with its page editors, dedicated hosting, automation, funnels, and more. It also makes the entire ordeal a lot more intuitive thanks to a straightforward user interface.
It was created back in 2018 by Mike Filsaime and Andy Jenkins, and it has quickly grown to be an industry standard for course creation, email automation, and digital marketing in general.
Similar to Kartra, Podia sells as another all-in-one suite of features focused on selling digital products like memberships and courses. It’s intuitive, and it saves a lot of time previously spent on things like coding.
So far, it sounds a lot like Kartra, and that’s why a lot of people have trouble deciding between the two.
Podia focuses on letting you build and sell digital products like courses, eBooks, and even music or videos quickly and without too much effort. Its objective is to make digital products more accessible as a business opportunity for entrepreneurs while also keeping them from having to integrate different tools for this purpose.
Podia has become one of the main platforms used by course creators. It’s a close competitor to industry giants like Kajabi and Teachable.
Another advantage from Podia comes with added features like affiliate centers, email automation, blogging, and land page creation.
Still looks the same as Kartra, doesn’t it? Let’s keep going.
Which features do you get with Kartra?
Kartra lets you create a help desk for customer support right from the platform. You don’t need to install an extra app to implement live chat, tickets, and phone and Skype calls. You can even create several support hubs for different products, each one with its own agents.
Besides these channels you can also create a knowledge base. It’s basically a wiki for your business, and you can use it to provide guides, tutorials, FAQs, and troubleshooting tips for customers who prefer to fix things by themselves.
This is one of Kartra’s praised features; you can use it to create and sell your online courses while hosting them directly on Kartra. While Podia is somewhat more famous for this than Kartra, it still boasts excellent features.
You can provide content without too much effort, so you can use it to create courses and membership areas without any programming or coding knowledge. You don’t need to sacrifice looks and style, either, since the drag-and-drop builder edits the code automatically in real-time.
You can also brand your website regardless of your subscription. The same goes for creating different membership tiers, where you can offer more content and products for superior members.
Finally, the help desk integrates seamlessly with these sections. They also come with an automated marketing feature based on your customers profile; it automatically adapts pages and contents depending on their preferences to offer a unique customer experience.
Kartra offers a complete marketing funnels an campaigns suite of features. It also makes marketing a lot more intuitive for beginners.
You can different funnel campaigns and pages, including: squeeze pages, funnels for VSL, product launches and books, and even list-building campaigns and daily promotions. There are many more pages, and they all come ready for you to simply customize and release; plus, they’re free.
All campaigns are automated and have been created by marketing experts. You don’t need to do a lot other than picking the one you need, customize it to suit your brand, and launch it.
As long as you can set goals and have a solid idea for your brand, you’re good to go.
Kartra also lets you build affiliate programs, as well as recruiting and managing your different affiliates and payments. You can set your rates using percentages, milestones, dates, and even currencies. Kartra then handles the rest automatically.
You can also give more freedom to your affiliates by letting them offer their own digital bonuses with their affiliate links. Likewise, you can set up discounts for purchases made via these links.
Furthermore, there’s an affiliate marketplace. You can use it to post your products for others to join as affiliates. You can even look for products to affiliate with and make some extra money.
We already mentioned how you can import entire campaigns already made by experts. However, the same goes for all pages you want to add to your website.
You can select templates for a huge range of pages like blogs, webinars, legal sections, checkouts, sales pages, and even 404 errors.
You also get templates to create forms. You can design professional-looking forms for capturing leads, and they integrate easily with the tagging systems built into Kartra to expand your automation features.
Finally, Kartra comes with its own shopping cart functionality—no need to install an additional app. It also works with several payment processors, such as PayPal, and credit cards.
The email service available in Kartra is another excellent example of this platform’s power. Describing all it offers would make this article a lot longer than it needs to be, so let’s summarize it.
You can personalize your entire email marketing approach to tailor each user. You have an intuitive automation tool based on workflows and conditions that you can use to let your email marketing run on autopilot.
It even supports SMS marketing—automated as well—to keep your users engaged. It all works with the same triggers: tags, subscription, URL clicks, purchases, page and video views, membership tier, and more.
Kartra also provides users with their own hosting platform. You don’t need to use external sites like Vimeo and YouTube, which also means more speed.
However, the main feature is easily the customizable video player. You can use Kartra’s own player to include several actions and prompts while playing any video. You can improve conversions with different messages and CTA’s on your videos, and you can even add opt-ins during their runtime.
The video player also adapts to your behavioral marketing by letting you set up tags.
Finally, the calendar app is a very simple but highly useful feature in Kartra. It’s usually a separate app for most other platforms, so you’re also saving money.
It basically shows visitors a calendar based on your availability. Members can then schedule appointments, like coaching sessions, by themselves. The calendar integrates with your checkout page as well, so customers will go straight into your checkout after scheduling.
It’s amazing for coaches and consultants, but it also does wonders when hosting live events like webinars or periodic Q&A’s. You also get automated reminders, so you don’t have to worry about missing important dates.
Which features do you get with Podia?
The membership features offered by Podia are miles ahead of Kartra; there’s no way around it. You have a ton of features and things you can do for your courses.
First off, we have the membership tears. You can build as many as you want—with the prices you want. You can offer free memberships as well, with limited content and bonuses. You can also enable both monthly and annual membership, adding discounts to the latter
You can also share free content to anyone through special URLs. You can think of the as public posts, and you can also rank them on search engines. If used correctly, they can be a form of blog all by themselves.
However, you can also create private content for different membership tiers. You get to decide what content specific membership levels have access to. It’s a great way to promote subscription upgrades for your free members by giving more and more content as they pay more.
Finally, you can pin posts you want to prioritize. These work as sticky forum posts, which are amazing for informing about updates and new version releases for your courses. Other sticky post options include community rules, member welcomes, and an FAQ.
You can also run your email marketing within Podia. Podia also advertises unlimited resources for this purpose: emails, leads, bonuses, support, and more.
It’s quite similar to Kartra in terms of what you can do with it. You can target emails for drip campaigns as well as set up triggers for automating your messages; these include sign-ups, purchases, and more.
You can use these triggers on your mailing lists as well, along with customer tagging to target specific interests. The same goes with email tracking.
Courses and quizzes
This is another advantage over Kartra, and it makes sense since Podia focuses on educational products. You can implement different quizzes into your courses to increase engagement and even obtain feedback from your students; it’s an excellent way to find out what your students would like and improving your products.
Besides quizzes, the overall courses system is really fleshed-out. You can manage your members and offer coupons and upsells to boost your sales and profits overall. Luckily, this feature is also available on Kartra.
Podia also lets you host digital downloads along your courses and memberships. You can offer different types of files to your customers as well: PDFs and other eBook formats, audio, images, videos, and more.
Finally, you also have a nice page builder that’s just enough for beginners and simple yet functional pages. However, you can’t build sales funnels on Podia—at least not with a dedicated editor like Kartra’s.
You could fashion a DIY sales funnel if you understand the principles, but that’s definitely not the focus here, and the results are definitely far from what you can achieve with Kartra.
Still, you can build your standard pages like homepages, contact and about pages, FAQs, and product pages with reviews. It’s quite limited in terms of customization and depth, but it’s still a nice solution if you want to run a basic website.
Kartra has 5 different subscription tiers, billed monthly. You can get a 25% discount if you pay the whole year. They’re as follows:
- Starter – $99
- Silver – $199
- Gold – $299
- Platinum – $499
There’s also a 14-day trial for $1 with access to all Kartra features.
What’s nice about Kartra is how all of the features are fully accessible even from the most basic plan. It’s a great option if you’re starting an online business, and the only significant limit is that you can only build 2 membership sites.
However, if you want to build several sites, you can build unlimited sites using the silver plan. From there, the only difference between tiers is how many emails, leads, domains, products, and bandwidth you have access to.
Podia only offers 2 different monthly subscriptions, but they’re very affordable. There’s also a 14-day trial for free. Paying the full year gives you 2 free months.
The two packages are Mover for $39 monthly and Shaker for $79 monthly. However, Podia is quite different from Kartra in that features differ between the plans.
The Mover subscription is your basic plan, and it comes with the basic Podia features. However, you’ll need to upgrade to Shaker if you want access to the most interesting features, like the membership module.
Again, it depends on your needs.
Podia is easily the best choice if you want to host a membership site for online courses. You can offer special bonuses and different types of digital downloads. It offers a lot more depth if you want to focus mainly on providing online programs with membership tiers with different access to content.
On the other hand, Kartra is your best option if you want to focus on more than just your product.
Let me explain.
Kartra lets you host video and build courses with their own membership tiers. It’s not as comprehensive or powerful as Podia, but you can consider it a concession in favor of providing you with more tools than the latter. That’s because Kartra goes into a lot more depth when it comes to marketing: sales funnels, powerful email automation, and different apps—like the calendar and help desk—for a complete business structure.

Once again, thanks for reading my Kartra Vs Podia and I wish you the best of luck.
